One thing I've noticed over the past year is that reducing CPC doesn't automatically mean better results. A lower CPC is only valuable if conversions stay consistent or improve.
A few things that have been working for me:
A few things that have been working for me:
- Instead of chasing the cheapest clicks, I'm focusing on higher-intent keywords. They often cost a bit more, but the conversion rate makes up for it.
- Regularly reviewing the search terms report and adding negative keywords has helped eliminate a lot of wasted spend.
- Improving ad relevance by matching ad copy closely with keyword intent has increased Quality Score, which has lowered CPC over time.
- Testing different ad creatives every few weeks keeps CTR healthy and prevents ad fatigue.
- I've also been separating branded and non-branded campaigns, which makes bidding and budgeting much easier.
- Landing page improvements have made a noticeable difference. Faster load times, clearer CTAs, and better mobile optimization have helped maintain conversions even when traffic costs fluctuate.
- Finally, I'm avoiding broad bid reductions across the board. Instead, I lower bids only for keywords or audiences that consistently underperform based on actual conversion data.
