I’ve been working on a casino affiliate site and I’m looking for practical ways to increase organic traffic, improve rankings, and generate more quality conversions.

The site has some content and SEO work in place, but growth has been slower than expected. I’d especially like to hear from people who have experience with affiliate SEO, content strategy, link building, or improving conversion rates.

What strategies have worked best for you when growing a competitive affiliate site? Any specific areas I should focus on first technical SEO, content, backlinks, topical authority, or CRO?

“I’d start with content quality before pushing more backlinks. In competitive niches, genuinely useful pages can make a big difference.”

“Have you checked where your current traffic is coming from? Finding the pages that already get impressions can help you identify easy growth opportunities.”

“For me, topical authority would be one of the first things to focus on. Build supporting content around your main money pages rather than publishing random topics.”

“Casino is a tough niche, so I’d avoid expecting quick results. Consistent content + solid technical SEO + quality links usually needs time to compound.”

“I’d take a close look at your competitors. Sometimes the easiest wins come from finding keywords they rank for that you haven’t covered yet.”

“Don’t underestimate internal linking. A well-planned internal link structure can help both users and search engines understand which pages are most important.”

“Have you looked at your Google Search Console data recently? Queries with high impressions but low clicks could give you some quick optimization opportunities.”

“I’d focus on informational content as well as commercial pages. Building traffic around related questions can gradually strengthen the whole site.”

“Backlinks can help, but I wouldn’t go for volume just for the sake of it. Relevance and quality matter much more in a competitive niche.”

“What’s your current conversion rate? More traffic isn’t always the answer if the existing traffic isn’t converting properly.”

“I’d probably audit the site before spending more money. Fix technical issues, thin pages, cannibalization, and poor internal linking first.”

“One thing that worked for me was updating older articles instead of constantly creating new ones. Some pages improved significantly after a proper content refresh.”

The lack of separate business accounting would make me cautious, but it wouldn’t automatically stop me from buying. I’d ask the seller to provide a transaction export from PayPal and clearly identify all website-related payments. Then I’d compare that against affiliate/referral dashboards and any invoices or contracts. If the numbers reconcile reasonably well, the history becomes much easier to trust. For pricing, I’d look at actual profit rather than revenue because the expenses are so low.

“The niche is definitely competitive, but there are still opportunities in long-tail keywords. Smaller keywords can be easier to rank for and often bring very targeted visitors.”

“I’d compare your content against the pages currently ranking. Look at what they cover that your articles don’t, then improve the depth and usefulness of your own pages.”

“Have you tested different titles and meta descriptions? Improving CTR can sometimes give existing rankings a noticeable boost without creating new content.”

“I’d build the site around a clear topical structure rather than treating every article as a separate project. That makes the overall SEO strategy much stronger.

That makes sense. I was probably looking too much at link building and not enough at whether the existing pages are actually useful enough. I’ll start with the content audit first.
“For me, topical authority would be one of the first things to focus on. Build supporting content around your main money pages rather than publishing random topics.”
Yeah, topical authority is something I haven’t really structured properly yet. I have content around the main topics, but it’s more scattered than it should be. Definitely something I need to clean up.
“I’d take a close look at your competitors. Sometimes the easiest wins come from finding keywords they rank for that you haven’t covered yet.”
Competitor research has actually been pretty useful so far. There are quite a few smaller keywords they’re ranking for that I completely overlooked.
“Have you looked at your Google Search Console data recently? Queries with high impressions but low clicks could give you some quick optimization opportunities.”
I checked GSC after reading this and found a few pages with decent impressions but surprisingly low CTR. Going to test the titles and descriptions before touching the content too much.
“I’d focus on informational content as well as commercial pages. Building traffic around related questions can gradually strengthen the whole site.”
That’s something I need to work on as well. Traffic looks nice in the reports, but if the visitors aren’t taking the next step, it doesn’t really help the business.
“What’s your current conversion rate? More traffic isn’t always the answer if the existing traffic isn’t converting properly.”
Honestly, this is a good question. I’ve been more focused on traffic than conversion rate, which probably isn’t the best way to look at it. I’m going to start tracking the two separately.
“One thing that worked for me was updating older articles instead of constantly creating new ones. Some pages improved significantly after a proper content refresh.”
I like that approach. Some of my older articles are still getting impressions, so refreshing those might be a better use of time than publishing another 20 brand-new posts.
“I’d build the site around a clear topical structure rather than treating every article as a separate project. That makes the overall SEO strategy much stronger.
This is probably the bigger lesson for me. I’ve been treating every article as its own SEO project instead of thinking about how all the pages work together. The site structure needs more attention.

I had better results after connecting related articles with internal links. It made the site easier to navigate and helped users find more information.
