I've been looking into site and domain flipping lately, and I'm curious if anyone here is doing it full-time or even as a side income.

Most of the YouTube videos make it sound easy buy a domain or an underperforming website, improve it a little, and sell it for a profit. But I know reality is usually different.

I'm wondering:
  • Where do you usually find websites worth buying?
  • Do you prefer flipping aged domains or complete websites?
  • How long does it usually take before you can sell?
  • What's the biggest mistake you made when starting?
  • Is SEO knowledge absolutely necessary, or can beginners still get into it?
I'm not expecting overnight success. I'm just trying to understand whether this is still a worthwhile business in 2026 or if the market has become too competitive.

I'd really appreciate hearing some real experiences good or bad. If you've completed a few flips, what advice would you give someone just getting started?

Looking forward to learning from everyone here.

I've been flipping websites for about three years now, and it's definitely not as easy as YouTube makes it look. My first few purchases were complete failures because I bought sites based on revenue screenshots instead of looking at the actual traffic sources. These days I only buy sites with stable organic traffic and clean backlink profiles. My advice would be to spend more time learning how to evaluate a site than worrying about selling one. That knowledge alone will save you a lot of money.
