A few days ago, my hosting provider made a serious mistake and ended up selling my domain to someone else. It was completely unexpected, and obviously I wasn't happy about it.

After contacting their support team, I explained the situation and requested compensation. They agreed pretty quickly and sent me $350. At the time, I told them that I considered it only an initial settlement because I wanted to look into the actual value of the domain first.

Later, I checked the domain using an online appraisal tool, and it estimated the value at around $500 when the incident happened.

Now I'm unsure what to do next. Part of me thinks I should just accept the $350 and move on, while another part feels I should ask them to cover the estimated value of the domain since the loss happened because of their mistake.

If you were in my position, would you consider the matter settled, or would you try to negotiate for additional compensation?

If I were in your position, I'd probably accept the $350 and move on. Online appraisal tools are only estimates, not guaranteed market values.

I'd only ask for more if you can prove the domain was actually worth $500, not just because a valuation tool says so.

The fact that they compensated you so quickly is a good sign. Many companies would have argued first.

Personally, I'd consider the issue resolved unless the domain had real business value beyond the appraisal.

Did the domain generate income? If it was making money, I'd definitely try to recover those losses as well.

Domain appraisal websites can be very inaccurate. I wouldn't rely on them as the main reason to request more compensation.

I'd explain how you calculated the value and see if they're willing to meet you somewhere in the middle.
