Hi everyone,
I'm getting ready to hire my first freelancer for an online project, and before I move forward, I wanted to hear from people who have already been through the process.
I've never hired anyone before, so I want to make sure I make the right decision. There are so many talented freelancers available, but it's also difficult to know who will deliver quality work and communicate well throughout the project.
Before I start sending offers, I'd love to know what experienced clients usually look for when choosing a freelancer.
Here are a few questions I have:
- How do you check if a freelancer is genuinely skilled?
- Do you usually ask for a portfolio or previous work before hiring?
- Is it better to start with a small paid test project first?
- How important are reviews and ratings compared to actual experience?
- What are some common red flags that I should avoid?
- Do you prefer hiring someone with years of experience, or would you give a beginner a chance if they have a strong portfolio?
- How do you decide on a fair budget without overpaying?
- What helps create a smooth working relationship from the beginning?
If you've hired freelancers before, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences both the good and the bad. Any advice, lessons learned, or hiring tips would be very helpful for someone just getting started.
Looking forward to reading your suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help!
