Hey everyone,
I’ve been running a niche dating website for a while and the user base has started growing faster than I expected. Most of the traffic is coming naturally through SEO, and I’m now at the point where I’m seriously thinking about monetizing the site instead of just focusing on growth.
Right now, I have around 1,200 registered users, with roughly 250–500 people active during a typical week. I’m also getting around 30 new registrations per day without running paid ads.
I’m trying to figure out what would make the most sense at this stage. I’ve considered things like premium memberships, dating-related affiliate offers, advertising, paid features, or possibly a subscription model, but I don’t want to introduce something that hurts user activity or makes people leave.
I’m also a little unsure about payments because this is a dating site in a niche that some mainstream payment providers may consider higher risk. I’d rather choose a processor that is comfortable with the business model from the beginning than build everything around a provider that might cause problems later.
For anyone who has monetized a dating, community, or other membership-based website, what worked best for you? Would you start with a few optional premium features while keeping the core experience free, or introduce subscriptions from the beginning?
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have actually dealt with this rather than just general monetization advice.
