One thing I would add is keeping the website’s core pages updated. About, contact, privacy, terms, and other basic pages can easily get forgotten once the main content starts growing.
 
I agree with almost everything here, especially the part about unnecessary plugins. I once had a website with so many plugins that figuring out which one was causing a conflict became a project by itself. Now I install only what I genuinely need.
 
For me, the biggest mistake was focusing too much on design before understanding the audience. Once I started looking at what visitors actually wanted, the structure and content decisions became much easier.
 
Good point about backups. I ignored them on my first site and learned the hard way after a plugin update caused problems. Never again.
