Hey everyone,

I’m helping a friend sell a website he has owned and maintained for around 5 years. I may receive a small commission if the sale goes through.

The site is focused on second citizenship, second passports, residency programs, Golden Visas, and privacy-related topics. It has been built organically over the years, with strong SEO and backlinks/citations from well-known sources such as Forbes, Entrepreneur, and others.

The site is very low-maintenance and costs less than $200/year to operate. It currently generates around $12,000/year on average through referrals to service providers.

The main issue is that it’s essentially a hobby site rather than a formal business, so selling it through some of the major marketplaces may be difficult. The revenue is also received through his personal PayPal account, which makes providing clean business financial records more complicated.

I’d love to get some advice from people who have bought or sold websites before:

1. Where would you recommend listing a site like this without an overly complicated verification process?
2. Are there marketplaces or private-sale options that support crypto payments?
PayPal is also an option.
3. Based on the traffic, SEO strength, and ~$12K/year revenue, what kind of valuation range would be reasonable?
4. Would you recommend selling privately or using a website marketplace?

Happy to provide more details about traffic, revenue sources, SEO, and the site itself if that helps.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience selling similar niche websites.

The $12K yearly revenue is a good starting point. I would focus on proving the revenue and traffic history before worrying too much about the marketplace. A clean record of the last 2–3 years can make the site much easier to sell.

I'd probably get a valuation from more than one source before deciding on an asking price. Different buyers can look at the same website very differently.

I’m looking for someone to help organize and improve an existing content library. There are hundreds of old articles and documents that need to be categorized, checked for duplicates, and marked for updating or removal. Good organization skills and attention to detail are more important than writing ability for this project.

I would also show the top pages. If a few pages are consistently bringing organic traffic and referrals, that gives buyers a better idea of what they are actually purchasing.

Honestly, the biggest asset may be the authority and topical relevance rather than the current revenue. Someone already operating in the second citizenship or residency space could probably make better use of the existing traffic than a general website investor.

I would probably try a private sale first. Since the site has been around for five years and has strong backlinks, you may find a buyer who understands the value better than a general marketplace buyer.
